ISBAR care handover

FHIR · React · MUI

Overview

This project was an attempt to utilise the FHIR specification during the patient handover process based on the ISBAR (Introduction, Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) form, which is a standardisation of the patient handover process. By implementing the handover form to be used in electronic medical records (EHR), the human errors introduced during the handover process were expected to be greatly reduced.

After the research and design phase, a proof-of-concept application was developed using React and a test FHIR server. The application contains two different versions of the ISBAR handover form: simple and complex. The simple version consists of text fields for each section of ISBAR. This allows users to follow the verbal handover process, catering to the need for efficient input and saving time. The complex version requires users to enter more detailed information with more constraints, while prefilling the fields that are already known.
